Waltham makes it two from two and in style at Leopardstown by beating a host of recent winners on just his second start and looks at least a stakes performer in the making for trainer Ger Lyons, jockey Colin Keane and owners Juddmonte.
A striking colt by the late Roaring Lion, Waltham travels so well yet shows real speed for a stayer at the end of his races and the trainer anticipates huge improvement to come, especially next season as a four-year-old.
"He's only 80% cooked at the moment and the sky is the limit with him at the minute, he doesn't seem to have any negatives to him," Lyons told Racing TV's Fran Berry after the race. The trainer has had a trying season so far by his high standards but Waltham looks a genuinely exciting one for the Kilburnie team in the months ahead.
