Sharjah made his first career start in France nearly nine years ago and the 11-year-old has won six Grade 1s for trainer Willie Mullins hacing run at the top level no less than 25 times.
But on his handicap debut over fences and up to three miles - and with the benefit of an excellent ride from Paul Townend - the grand servant of Closutton ran out a ready winner of this £50,000 prize on Coral Scottish National day to give his all-conquering trainer a first winner at Ayr.
In the three-way tussle for the trainer's championship - with Paul Nicholls and Dan Skelton also in the mix - Sharjah also provides a useful contribution with just days of the season to go as Mullins bids to become only the second Irish-based trainer - and the first since the great Vincent O'Brien 70 years ago - to be crowned champion in Britain
