Magic and Mike discuss the news (as first reported by the LA Times) that the California Horse Racing Board (CHRB) has granted the California Authority of Racing Fairs (CARF) additional racing dates, despite threats from owner 1/ST Racing & Gaming to cease operations at Santa Anita Park if this happened.
According to the Paulick Report, the CARF's proposed meet is designed to fill in some of the gaps left when 1/ST Racing announced it was closing Golden Gate Fields in Albany at the end of the current meet in June.
Golden Gate was originally scheduled to shutter its doors in December 2023 but was kept open for another six months to permit Northern California horsemen and tracks an opportunity to come up with an alternate solution.
