Trainer Gavin Cromwell has a very strong hand for the Paddy Power Mares' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival with the likes of Bioluminescence, Brides Hill and defending champion Limerick Lace, but excellent jumper Only By Night is not to be overlooked and the novice is a general 6/1 in the betting for the Grade Two contest after landing Listed honours at Exeter.
A first winner at the track for the Irish trainer and jockey Keith Donoghue, the seven-year-old characteristically jumped well to take her record to three from three over fences - all the more impressive given that all three of her starts have been against either geldings or outside of novice company.
Donoghue sounded optimistic that the Affinsea mare would have a fair chance if lining up for the Cheltenham Festival contest in March given suitable conditions and, however Cromwell decides to play his hand with his mares, Only By Night is certainly one to watch with interest on even better ground later in the spring.
