L’Eau Du Sud (1-5 Favourite) completed his preparation for next month’s My Pension Expert Arkle Novices’ Chase at The Cheltenham Festival when making it four wins from as many starts over fences in today’s Grade Two Unibet Kingmaker Novices’ Chase at Warwick.
The Dan Skelton-trained seven-year-old raced prominently throughout under Harry Skelton and put up a great round of jumping. After going clear three fences from home, he idled a little after the last but still won by a comfortable length from Rubaud.
It was an especially poignant success as L’Eau du Sud raced in the famous yellow silks of John Hales, who sadly died on January 30 aged 85. Hales owned the winner along with daughter Lisa, Ged Mason, Sir Alex Ferguson and Paul Hogarth.
An emotional Lisa Hales told Racing TV: “It has been a tough week. The big man is up there watching."
