Legendary trainer Dermot Weld could potentially have another top-class filly on his hands after Swelter - a beautifully bred type by Kingman out of Hot Snap and from an excellent Juddmonte family - made the perfect start to her career at Leopardstown under jockey Chris Hayes.
"That wasn't a surprise," said the trainer despite the 12/1 starting price for Swelter, with Weld quick to add that he had entered this filly for leading juvenile races before her debut, notably the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Irish Champions Festival at the Curragh in September.
The trainer evidently holds Swelter in very high regard and hopes he might just be able to make the 1000 Guineas with her. Weld has plenty of history in the fillies' Classics, even when taking just the last few years into account only, with the likes of Homeless Songs, Tahiya and, over longer distances, the Oaks heroine Ezeliya.
